Learn a little bit more about us

Humans deserve balance

Most of us have felt the agitation, frustration or sadness that follows those periods of life where we have lost sight of what’s important.  Sometimes finding our way back to the people, places and things that really matter is too hard to do alone.

At Merge Programs, we have an undiluted belief in human potential.  Our prime objective is to help you find balance in a world where balance is too often misunderstood and undervalued.

Our power lies in our differences

Each of us has the potential to make the changes we need and deserve.

Balance can be found when we understand the power in our differences and use these to counteract the often overwhelming pressures and expectations that creep into our lives.

Unique programs for you

You, our clients, bring unique perspectives and novel experiences into each session.  In collaboration with our professional expertise, we tailor programs to specifically meet your individual needs and support you to achieve your potential.

Evidence-based strategies to feel empowered

We only use scientifically researched and well established treatment strategies.  We use evidence-based practices in our physical and psychological programs so that no matter what your age or stage of life, you can feel empowered to use the skills and knowledge gained in treatment to enhance your sense of well-being.

One of the first things we coach you through when we start working together is to “notice“.  Cognitive Behavioural Therapy uses the idea of “metacognition”.  Mindfulness based therapies call it “the observing self”.  All evidence-based therapies start by helping you develop the skill of noticing how you think.  When we don’t understand what we are thinking, how we feel, or why we behave the way we do, its very difficult to make meaningful changes.

What is Mental Health?

Once we understand that we can notice how we think, feel and behave, then we can give ourselves a more realistic idea of good mental health.

You don’t need a textbook definition!

Your individual version of mental health and wellbeing may come from doing very different things than others around you or on social media.

  • Do you feel able to regulate your emotions and behaviours when under stress?
  • Do you know your own personal ways of encouraging a sense of balance?
  • When life throws you a curve ball, do you allow yourself to feel the pain or worry?
  • Do you know what to do to soothe your pain or worry?
  • Can you accept your differences and value them?

Don’t confuse mental health and wellbeing with neverending happiness and contentedness.  This is a marketing ploy and there is NO SUCH THING.

Your version of mental health is knowing that in spite of the stress and pressures around you, there are methods you can use to experience and manage your distress. Then watch it pass.

What is the point of therapy then?

The goal of mental health therapies is to allow you to be aware of your distressing thoughts and feelings, allow them to exist, and and then feel empowered to face those thoughts and feelings and do something useful with them.

We don’t want to be drawn back into old automatic patterns of thoughts and behaviours.  We want to teach ourselves how to do something differently.   It is a skill that helps to be present in the moment, get more focused, …..be balanced.

Have you wondered how balanced you are?

How do we improve our mental health and wellbeing?
